AEG's documentation uses both 1600rpm and 1551rpm depending on the specification field or programme. The machine supports high-speed spinning, but the precise maximum should be read in context.
Wash performance and fabric care
The AEG LWR8516O5UD washer dryer combines a 10kg washing capacity with PowerClean pre-mixing technology, ProSense load detection and a broad programme selection. PowerClean is designed for a 5kg load at 30°C, while AEG reports complete stain removal in under an hour in external testing.
Fabric care is a major strength. SpecialCare Wash-to-Dry adapts drum movement to different fabrics, and the machine has Woolmark Blue certification, an Outdoor programme, Hygiene washing and Steam Refresh for reducing odours and wrinkles without a full wash. UniversalDose provides a dedicated PODS compartment with targeted waterjets to help dissolve capsules before they enter the drum.
Drying, energy and noise
The condenser drying system has a 6kg cotton drying capacity, so a full 10kg wash load cannot be transferred directly into one complete drying cycle. The manufacturer also specifies a 4kg maximum for synthetic drying, reinforcing the need to manage loads carefully when using combined cycles.
The appliance is rated A for washing-only operation but D for the combined wash-and-dry cycle. Its Eco 40-60 wash-and-dry test load uses 3.795kWh and takes 7 hours 45 minutes for a full 6kg load, so it is better suited to shoppers who value convenience and capacity over the shortest or most economical full-cycle operation. The quoted 76dB spin noise is audible in open-plan or nearby living spaces.
Controls and connectivity
Wi-Fi connectivity and Remote Start allow the AEG LWR8516O5UD washer dryer to be monitored and controlled through the My AEG Care app. The machine supports customised cycles, notifications and additional programme management, while the medium LCD display and controls cover temperature, spin, drying level, time drying, steam, stain treatment, time saving and finish scheduling.
Useful everyday programmes include Eco 40-60, Cottons, Synthetics, Delicates, Wool/Handwash, Outdoor, Hygiene, Machine Clean, PowerClean and Quick 20 Wash&Dry 60. The latter can wash and dry a 1kg mixed load in one hour, making it more practical for small urgent loads than for a full family wash.
Installation and ownership
This is a freestanding appliance measuring 847mm high, 597mm wide and up to 660mm deep. That depth is typical of a high-capacity washer dryer but should be checked carefully against the available utility or kitchen space, including clearance for hoses and door opening.
An Inverter Motor+, 69-litre drum, adjustable feet, Aqua Control leakage monitoring and automatic load adjustment provide a well-equipped ownership package. The manual also documents low off and standby consumption, although keeping the connected function active increases networked standby use.
Verdict
The AEG LWR8516O5UD washer dryer is a strong choice for buyers who want substantial wash capacity, sophisticated fabric care and smart controls in one machine. PowerClean, UniversalDose, Steam Refresh and SpecialCare Wash-to-Dry give it a more capable feature set than a basic washer dryer.
The main compromises are the lower 6kg drying capacity, D combined-cycle energy rating, audible spin noise, long full-load wash-and-dry programme and relatively deep cabinet. It is best viewed as a feature-rich convenience appliance rather than the most economical option for frequent full wash-and-dry cycles.
