Specification note

Smeg's exact product data lists a 42mm height and a 3.5kW ultra-rapid burner. These figures take precedence over the retailer’s supplied information wording.

Cooking layout and control

The Smeg P261XGH gas hob provides four fixed gas burners operated by four front-mounted rotary knobs. The layout combines one 3.5kW ultra-rapid burner with 2.6kW rapid, 1.7kW semi-rapid and 1.1kW auxiliary burners, giving a useful spread for high-heat cooking, simmering and smaller pans.

Front controls are easy to reach and allow the flame to be adjusted directly. The cast-iron pan supports provide a stable platform for cookware, although their weight makes them less convenient to remove than lighter supports.

Materials and everyday use

The brushed stainless-steel surface gives the Smeg P261XGH gas hob a conventional, durable finish, while the cast-iron supports are designed for strength and stability. Aluminium burners keep the construction relatively straightforward and are specified as part of Smeg's Contemporary burner system.

The stainless-steel surface will suit kitchens where a neutral finish is preferred. As with many gas hobs, the surface and burner components need regular cleaning around the flame spreaders and pan supports.

Installation and compatibility

This is a traditional built-in 60cm hob measuring 600mm wide, 510mm deep and 42mm high. Smeg specifies a worktop cut-out of 478–482mm by 555–560mm, so the existing opening should be checked before installation.

The hob is set up for G20 natural gas and includes G30 liquid-gas nozzles for conversion. It has a 1W electrical connection for ignition, but no mains plug is supplied; the gas and electrical connections should be completed by authorised personnel.

Safety and maintenance

Automatic ignition makes lighting the burners straightforward, while the gas safety valves are designed to stop the gas supply if a flame goes out. This is a useful safety feature for everyday cooking.

The manual states that the pan supports, flame-spreader crowns and burner caps should not be washed in a dishwasher. The appliance is also not designed for external timers or remote-control systems, so operation remains entirely manual.
