Where to buy the Fisher & Paykel CID834RDTB4 hob
🏆 Review & price summary
The Fisher & Paykel CID834RDTB4 hob combines four-zone induction cooking with integrated recirculating ventilation in a wide black-glass design. It offers PowerBoost, nine heat settings, SmartZone bridging, GentleHeat, timers, pan detection and nine extraction speeds plus boost. The result is a versatile appliance for island and open-plan kitchens, provided the kitchen can accommodate its larger cut-out, below-counter ventilation assembly and high electrical load.
✓ Key strengths
- ✓ SmartZone links two adjacent zones for large or elongated pans
- ✓ Up to 3, 000W on each individual cooking zone
- ✓ Strong extraction performance with nine speeds plus boost and airflow up to 660m³/hr
- ✓ GentleHeat, pause, timers, keylock and pan detection
- ✓ Flat black-glass surface and dishwasher-safe grease filter simplify routine cleaning
Worth considering
- Extraction reaches 70dBA on boost, so it is clearly audible when operating at maximum power
- The same external discharge arrangement as a ducted model
- Bridging two zones into the SmartZone disables PowerBoost, meaning the largest-pan mode cannot use the fastest heating function
- The 830mm width, below-worktop ventilation assembly and 7.4kW terminal-block electrical connection make installation more demanding than a standard-width hob

Two appliances in one
The Fisher & Paykel hob combines a four-zone induction surface with integrated recirculating downdraft ventilation. This can simplify the visual design of an island or open-plan kitchen by removing the need for a separate overhead hood.
Because this is the recirculating version, filtered air is returned to the room rather than discharged outside. That suits kitchens where external ducting is difficult, although it is not the same arrangement as a fully externally ducted extractor.
Cooking performance
The Fisher & Paykel hob provides four induction zones, each rated at 2,100W with PowerBoost output of up to 3,000W. PowerBoost is useful for bringing liquids to the boil or searing food quickly, while nine heat settings and GentleHeat support more delicate cooking.
Two adjacent zones can be linked into a SmartZone for larger or elongated cookware. The bridged zone has a combined rating of 3,700W, although PowerBoost cannot be used while the zones are bridged.
Extraction and noise
The integrated extractor offers nine fan speeds plus boost. Maximum airflow is rated at 660m³/hr on boost and 623m³/hr at level nine, giving the hob substantial extraction capability for a built-in system.
Noise ranges from 38dBA at minimum airflow to 70dBA on boost. It should therefore be unobtrusive at lower settings, but audible when maximum extraction is required. Extraction boost runs for 15 minutes before automatically reducing.
Controls, cleaning and safety
Touch-and-slide controls provide separate adjustment of the cooking zones and extractor. Useful functions include a minute timer, automatic cut-off timers for each zone, pause, keylock, pan detection and residual-heat indicators.
The flat black-glass surface is straightforward to wipe clean, while the grease filter is dishwasher safe. The appliance also uses three ceramic odour filters for its recirculating ventilation system.
Installation and ownership
At 830mm wide, the Fisher & Paykel hob is larger than a conventional 60cm hob and uses an 807mm by 492mm cut-out. The integrated ventilation assembly also requires dedicated space below the worktop and careful planning around ducting and the recirculation outlet.
The electrical specification is substantial, with a maximum load of 7.4kW, a 34A service requirement and terminal-block connection. Installation should therefore be planned with a suitably qualified electrician and kitchen installer rather than treated as a simple replacement appliance.
Research note: this BestBuysUK assessment is based on the manufacturer's published specifications and other reputable technical sources. Specifications and retailer availability can change, so verify critical details before purchase.
