Worth considering
- The 11.1kW nominal rating and 49A current draw require suitable fixed electrical provision rather than a standard plug-in connection

- Automatic extraction control
- The hob requires magnetisable induction cookware, so some existing pans may not be usable.

Smeg's official specifications list a 53mm product height, not a 1mm appliance body, and publish a different EAN from the supplied retailer information.
Cooking performance and flexibility
The Smeg SIM3864D hob provides six induction zones, each measuring 24 x 18cm, with a 2.1kW standard rating, 2.5kW booster and 3.0kW double-booster output. That gives it plenty of capacity for everyday cooking and fast boiling.
Three MultiZone areas can combine adjacent zones into larger 38.5 x 23cm cooking surfaces. This is useful for long dishes, griddles and large pans, although cookware must still be suitable for induction use.
Controls and everyday use
EVO Slider touch controls provide nine power levels, with automatic pan detection supporting cookware from a minimum diameter of 9cm. The hob also includes automatic pan positioning, six end-of-cooking timers, a minute minder, pause, quick start and rapid level selection.
Auto-Vent 2.0 can link the hob to a compatible hood over Bluetooth so extraction can respond to the selected cooking power. Without a compatible hood, this part of the feature set cannot be used.
Design and installation
The Smeg SIM3864D hob has a black Eclipse ceramic-glass surface and can be installed with an ultra-low profile or fully flushed finish. Its 800mm width suits larger kitchen layouts but requires a substantially wider worktop opening than a standard 600mm hob.
The published appliance height is 53mm, while the flush-fit option describes the way the glass is installed into the worktop rather than indicating a 1mm appliance body. Electrical installation needs suitable provision for the 11.1kW nominal rating and 49A current, and no plug is supplied.
Safety and practical features
Residual-heat indication, automatic overheat and overflow shut-off, pan detection, accidental-start protection and a child-safety control lock provide a strong set of protective functions.
Keep-warm, grill and timer functions add useful versatility, while the adjustable power-consumption mode can limit the hob from 2.4kW to 11.1kW in 100W steps where the kitchen's electrical supply requires it.
Research note: this BestBuysUK assessment is based on the manufacturer's published specifications and other reputable technical sources. Specifications and retailer availability can change, so verify critical details before purchase.
