🏆 Review & price summary

The Smeg PM6743R mixed-fuel hob offers a useful combination of two gas burners and two induction zones in a 75cm built-in format. Its strongest feature is flexibility: induction provides fast, precise heating and pan detection, while gas gives direct flame control for techniques where visual heat adjustment matters.

✓ Key strengths

  • ✓ Combines two gas burners with two induction zones
  • ✓ The two induction areas into a 38.5 x 23cm cooking surface
  • ✓ Nine power levels, double boost, quick start, pause and automatic keep-warm function
  • ✓ Strong safety specification including gas valves, automatic ignition, pan detection, residual-heat indication, overflow protection and control lock
  • ✓ Adjustable electrical power limitation can reduce the maximum draw to 2.1kW
  • ✓ And a wok support are included

Worth considering

  • Both gas and electrical connections are required, making installation more involved than for an all-electric hob
  • No mains plug is supplied, so the 3.70kW electrical connection requires suitable fixed installation
  • The 1mm ultra-low-profile description refers to the flat edge; Smeg lists the complete hob at 45mm high

Gas and induction in one hob

The Smeg PM6743R hob combines two gas burners with two induction zones, giving you direct flame control for traditional cooking alongside the fast response and pan detection of induction. The gas side includes an auxiliary burner and a 3.30kW ultra-rapid burner, while the induction zones each provide 2.10kW with 3.60kW boost power.

This layout is versatile, but it is still a four-zone hob rather than a full-width induction model. The two gas burners occupy the left side, so your choice of cooking method depends on where each pan is positioned.

Flexible induction cooking

The two right-hand induction zones can operate separately or combine through Smeg's MultiZone function. The combined area measures 38.5 x 23cm, which is useful for long pans, griddles and larger cookware. Automatic pan detection and automatic setting according to pan size help make the induction side easier to use.

There are nine power levels, double booster operation, quick start, rapid level selection and an automatic keep-warm function. A grill function is also available when used with Smeg's optional grill accessories.

Controls and safety

The gas burners use front-mounted rotary knobs, while the induction zones are controlled by touch sliders. Automatic ignition, gas safety valves, residual-heat indicators, overflow protection, overheat protection and control lock provide a strong set of day-to-day safety features.

Two end-of-cooking timers, a minute minder, pause, an end-of-cooking alarm and automatic switch-off add useful cooking control. The Eco-Logic Advance system can limit the electrical power draw between 2.1kW and 3.7kW, which can help when the available electrical supply is restricted.

Installation and everyday practicality

The black Eclipse ceramic-glass surface has a straight edge and cast-iron pan supports, with copper detailing around the controls. Smeg describes the appliance as ultra-low-profile and lists a 45mm overall product height, with a 719-724mm by 482-486mm worktop cut-out.

This is a more involved installation than an all-electric hob because it requires both a gas connection and a fixed electrical connection. Smeg supplies a 120cm cable but no mains plug, and installation of the gas and electrical connections should be carried out by authorised personnel. Auto-Vent 2.0 can wirelessly control a compatible Smeg hood, but it is a hood-linking function rather than integrated extraction.
