🏆 Review & price summary

The Smeg HOBD472D2 hob is a 70cm induction model with four cooking zones, two flexible Multizone areas and an extractor built into the centre of the ceramic-glass surface. Its 3.00kW individual boosters, 3.70kW Multizone boosters and automatic pan detection give it strong cooking flexibility, while the Evo Slider controls keep the layout relatively clean.

✓ Key strengths

  • ✓ Four induction zones with two flexible Multizone cooking areas
  • ✓ 3.00kW booster on every individual zone and 3.70kW boost on each Multizone area
  • ✓ A comprehensive feature set
  • ✓ A+ hood energy class with a regenerable charcoal filter supplied

Worth considering

  • The 73dBA noise rating on the strongest intensive extraction setting means it is not especially quiet when maximum ventilation is required
  • There is no supplied plug and the appliance is rated at 33A, so it needs suitable fixed electrical installation by an authorised installer
  • There are four cooking zones rather than the greater zone count available on some wider hobs, so very large multi-pan cooking may feel restricted

Specification note

the retailer’s supplied information contains an inconsistent energy claim, mentioning both A+ and A++. Smeg's official documentation specifies A+, which is the rating used here.

Flexible induction cooking

The Smeg HOBD472D2 hob provides four induction cooking zones, each measuring 21 x 19cm, with two flexible Multizone areas measuring 39.5 x 22cm. This gives more freedom when using larger pans or cookware with less conventional bases.

Each zone has nine power levels and a 3.00kW booster, while either Multizone area can reach 3.70kW on boost. Automatic pan detection, pan-size adjustment, a keep-warm function, pause control and four cooking timers add useful day-to-day flexibility.

Integrated extraction

The integrated hood offers eight extraction speeds plus two intensive settings. It is rated at up to 500m³/h at its highest standard speed and 630m³/h on the second intensive setting.

Auto-Vent can adjust extraction automatically during cooking, and the hood includes a delay function, filter-saturation indicators and a regenerable charcoal filter. The manufacturer's standard configuration is expulsion, so ducting needs to be planned as part of the installation.

Installation and controls

The Smeg HOBD472D2 hob has a black ceramic-glass surface with a front Evo Slider touch control. It can be installed with an ultra-low profile or fully flush finish, and the standard cut-out is 490 x 560mm.

Its 230mm product height, 33A electrical rating and lack of a supplied plug make this a proper built-in installation rather than a simple replacement for a plug-in hob. Power limitation can be set to 2.8, 3.5, 4.5 or 7.4kW to suit the available domestic supply.

Efficiency and everyday ownership

The integrated hood has an A+ energy-efficiency class, an A fluid-dynamic-efficiency class and an 85.1% grease-filtering efficiency. The supplied charcoal filter is regenerable, while the grease filter can be cleaned in a dishwasher according to the manual.

The ceramic surface benefits from residual-heat indication, overflow shut-off, child safety and automatic pan detection. Extraction noise is 49dBA at the lowest setting, 68dBA at maximum standard speed and 73dBA on the strongest intensive setting.
