🏆 Review & price summary

The Fisher & Paykel CI604CTB2 induction hob combines a sleek black-glass surface with four responsive cooking zones, PowerBoost, Gentle Heat, timers and a pause function. Its SmartHQ onboarding and Link Mode cooker-hood connection add convenience beyond the core cooking controls, while pan detection, keylock, hot-surface indicators and spillage auto-off support safer everyday use. It is a strong fit for a standard 60cm kitchen installation, provided the worktop cut-out, under-hob ventilation and 32A electrical supply are suitable.

✓ Key strengths

  • ✓ Four induction zones with two 21cm areas and strong PowerBoost ratings
  • ✓ Gentle Heat, pause and timer functions improve control over delicate and multi-pan cooking
  • ✓ SmartHQ onboarding and Link Mode add useful connected features
  • ✓ A comprehensive safety package
  • ✓ Black ceramic glass is straightforward to wipe clean after cooking

Worth considering

  • The 32A service requirement means it needs a suitable high-load electrical connection and qualified installation
  • It uses four fixed cooking zones rather than a linked or flexible SmartZone area, limiting flexibility for unusually large cookware
  • Two zones are 160mm in diameter, so larger pans are better placed on the two 210mm zones
  • Induction-compatible cookware is required, so existing non-magnetic pans may need replacing

Cooking performance

The Fisher & Paykel hob uses four induction zones, with two 21cm zones rated at 2,000W and two 16cm zones rated at 1,500W. PowerBoost raises the larger zones to 2,600W and the smaller zones to 1,800W, giving it plenty of heat for boiling, frying and searing.

Gentle Heat provides a lower, steadier setting for tasks such as melting and warming. The pause function and individual timers add useful control when several pans are being used at once.

Controls and everyday use

Touch-and-slide controls provide a separate slider-style adjustment for each cooking zone. The interface is more precise than basic stepped controls, while the minute timer helps keep cooking organised.

The black glass surface has a clean, contemporary appearance and is easy to wipe after use. As with other induction hobs, the cookware itself must be compatible with induction technology.

Safety and cleaning

Pan detection prevents a zone from heating unless suitable cookware is detected. Keylock, surface-hot indicators and spillage auto-off provide useful protection during everyday cooking.

The ceramic glass surface is less prone to baking on spills than a conventional radiant hob because the surrounding surface is not the primary heat source. Care is still needed to avoid dragging rough cookware across the glass.

Smart and hood connectivity

SmartHQ connectivity provides guided setup and onboarding through a mobile device, making the hob’s controls and functions easier to learn. The connection is primarily a support and setup feature rather than a replacement for the physical controls.

Link Mode can connect the hob to a compatible cooker hood and trigger automatic ventilation control while cooking. This is particularly useful in a coordinated Fisher & Paykel cooking installation, but it depends on having a compatible hood.

Installation and fit

The Fisher & Paykel hob measures 600mm wide, 530mm deep and 61mm high, with a specified 560mm by 490mm worktop cut-out. It is therefore designed for a conventional 60cm built-in installation.

The 32A service requirement is significant and installation must be carried out by a suitably qualified person. Adequate airflow below the hob is also required, so the cabinet arrangement should be checked before fitting.
