Cleaning performance
The Dyson Ball Animal Origin upright vacuum cleaner has a quoted 90 AW suction power in Powerful mode and uses a Motorbar cleaner head designed to clean carpets and hard floors. Its powered brush head uses hair-removal vanes to clear wrapped hair as it cleans, making it particularly well suited to homes with pets.
The cleaner head is designed for different floor types, with nylon bristles to agitate dirt from rugs and carpets while maintaining suction on hard floors. This gives the Dyson Ball Animal Origin upright vacuum cleaner a strong all-round cleaning specification, although it is primarily a full-size floor vacuum rather than a compact spot-cleaning appliance.
Pet-hair handling
The Motorbar cleaner head is the key feature for pet owners. Dyson states that its polycarbonate hair-removal vanes lift and guide long hair into the bin, while 7,815 nylon bristles help remove ground-in dirt from carpets and rugs.
The stair tool and combination tool extend its usefulness beyond floors, although the accessory selection is more limited than on some higher-content versions in the Ball Animal range.
Handling and reach
Ball technology is intended to make steering around furniture easier, and the upright has a 10-metre power cord. Dyson also specifies a 10.75-metre maximum reach and up to 14 metres of hose stretch for cleaning stairs and higher surfaces.
At 7.39kg, the Dyson Ball Animal Origin upright vacuum cleaner is substantial to carry, particularly when moving between floors. It is better suited to shoppers who value upright cleaning performance and corded endurance than to those prioritising low weight.
Filtration and maintenance
The machine uses whole-machine filtration, with a washable post-motor filter that Dyson says traps 99.97% of particles as small as 0.3 microns. This is a strong published filtration specification, although the manufacturer does not identify it as a HEPA filter on the product page.
The 1.7-litre bin allows longer cleaning sessions before emptying, and the contents are released hygienically at the touch of a button. Emptying remains a manual task rather than an automated self-emptying process.
Efficiency and value
This is a corded vacuum, so it does not require battery charging and can maintain operation while connected to the mains. Dyson does not publish a standard energy label or a running-power figure on the product page, so the efficiency assessment is based on its direct mains operation, long reach and large bin rather than on measured energy consumption.
The Dyson Ball Animal Origin upright vacuum cleaner offers a well-developed combination of pet-hair cleaning, filtration, reach and tool support. Its general value is strongest for buyers who specifically want a full-size corded upright and are willing to accept the weight and lack of cordless convenience.
